Deb McMahon, PhD is President and CEO of Scitent, Inc., setting the strategic vision for Scitent’s business and technology services. Deb applies nearly 25 years in education helping organizations develop their eLearning business. Scitent helps nonprofits, associations, healthcare organizations and for-profit organizations foster and grow their eLearning business with in-house expertise in instructional design/courseware development, distribution and LMS technology, sales and marketing, eCommerce and customer support. Deb is committed to business and entrepreneurial initiatives in our local community, having served as Chair for the Charlottesville Venture Group, Board Member and Secretary for the Central Virginia Better Business Bureau, and as Board Member for the former Business Growth Network. Deb has also served as a judge for the University of Virginia Business Concept Competition and a mentor for Startup Weekend (SWEDU), and is a past Chair and current Board Member for the Paramount Theater and the Advisory Council for the Legal Aid Justice Center. She received the 2015 CBIC Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the Charlottesville Business Innovation Council and the 2015 Founding Cville Award from the Tom Tom Founders Festival.
Please tell us your favorite thing about volunteering with CIC.
I enjoy volunteering with CIC because it helps first-time entrepreneurs avoid some of the pitfalls that we’ve all run into at one point or another. I hope that this type of mentoring expedites them on their path to success; it’s wonderful to see the dreams of these emerging entrepreneurs come to fruition.
