Johnetta Murray: Entrepreneur Spotlight

Meet Johnetta Murray! She is the owner of Justified by Netta, a body contouring and nail service that was sparked by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The global health crisis led to the temporary closure of nail salons, including the one where Johnetta was employed. However, the situation took an unexpected turn when the salon changed ownership upon reopening, leading to a wave of layoffs, including Johnetta’s. 

Faced with a crossroads, Netta found herself at a pivotal moment. Instead of looking for employment in another salon, she decided to chase her dream of running her own business. The pandemic, with all its uncertainties, became the catalyst she needed to take the leap of faith to pursue her own business venture. “It was time. I wanted to do this for such a long time, but I didn’t have the push.” With courage and determination, Netta decided to create a personalized experience for her clients by offering body contouring and nail services, all from the comfort of her own home. Her mission through Justified by Netta is to provide quality, top-notch nail and spa treatments to the Charlottesville community while also making clients feel at ease and informed about the services they’re receiving.

Johnetta’s entrepreneurial journey has also been advanced by her involvement in the Spring 2023  Entrepreneur Workshop, where she gained invaluable networking opportunities and insights into the nitty-gritty of running a business. While her skills and expertise are crucial, Netta explains, “CIC provided a lot of great networking and information to help me out with running my business on the backend because the challenging part is the behind-the-scenes work that goes into running a business.”

For Johnetta, this is just the start! “Now that I have completed the Entrepreneur Workshop through CIC, it’s time to take my business to another level,” Johnetta explains, “ I want to actually get a mobile bus and convert it into a shop so that I can reach more of my clientele. A  lot of times, I go to the assisted living community up at Westminster to service clients there, but a mobile vehicle would help me better service them because a lot of them can’t drive or, you know, lack immobile skills. I would also like to better serve our post-op clients by going to wherever they are.”
